David LaChapelle

David LaChapelle was introduced to me by my loyal reader and blog commentator, Mr. Hugo. first i thought i don’t know this artist, but while going through one of his books – Heaven to hell in a Taschen bookstore i found in Copenhagen, i realized i’ve seen it many times. LaChapelle is a photographer and video/commercial/film director that works in the fields of fashion, advertising, and fine art photography. his work cries out – surrealist, grotesque, shocking and ironic.

i think he is the only recognized photographer that uses celebrities to exaggerate aspects of their personalities and their personal lives.

LaChapelle started his career in the notorious Studio 54, where Andy Warhol made him his first professional job offer to become a photographer for Interview magazine. throughout the years he worked also for Rolling Stone, Vogue, GQ and Vanity Fair.

a lot can be said about LaChapelle, because his work is so strong you can not help being sucked to it one way or another.  you can hate it and find it appouling and exaggerated or you can find strong estetic touch in his voluptuous creations.
